What is my purpose?

Have you ever wondered, what has God purposed you to do? What am I meant to do while on this Earth? Have you ever questioned your very existence as if you were just taken up space like you didn’t matter or you had nothing to live for? I am reminded of the scripture Jeremiah 29:11 when God says, “For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Every one of us, God has a purpose and He has a plan for us designed specifically for our lives. My destiny is not your destiny and your destiny is not mine. God took time with us, and He knows everything about us even the very hairs on our heads. Luke 12:7 reads, “Even the hairs on your head are counted. So don’t be afraid! You are worth more than many sparrows.” When I heard Jeremiah 29:11, this week, it was a reminder for me during a difficult time in my life. It did something to my spirit that even when we may feel off track in our lives at times that God hasn’t forgotten about us no matter how weary it may look or seem. I was having some much needed alone time with God this week and I saw an airplane in the sky and it was kind of fading in and out. I could see it one moment and I couldn’t see it the next moment. & while I was watching it, the revelation I got from it was, just because you can’t see it doesn’t mean it’s not there. Just because you can’t see God doesn’t mean, He’s not there! God is always there and He has a plan for you.

If you’re like me I am the type of person who usually likes to learn new skills from time to time, I usually stay busy. Sometimes too busy & I have to calm myself down at times, especially during this quarantine season. I try to rest and also learn new things, but from time to time I have to have balance and clarity. I have to ask God what does He want me to do in this season in my life. I think to myself what is my purpose, what am I designed to do in this life, because God has given me talents. & just like He has given me talents, He has given you talents as well to be able to perfect. If you can relate, I am reminded of the late Kobe Bryant, who perfected his craft. He had the opportunity to begin perfecting what He loved to do at a young age. He had a natural drive for basketball. It was something that He gravitated to, but if he did not continue to perfect that craft. He would not have advanced in that particular area. & I strongly believe that many of us have the drive to do certain things in our lives as well, it’s somethings that we naturally gravitate to, but because we don’t have consistency, we don’t push ourselves. We never develop the tenacity and we fail to see the manifestation in our lives.

Consistency looks like this ___________________ ( a straight line). When you are consistent, you are reliable and people can depend on you. People that are consistent are oftentimes considered for promotions and new job opportunities. Inconsistency looks and feels like this ~^^^~…_^_….. -. You never know what you are about to get from this person. They are more than likely moved by how they feel. They may come to work or they may not show up at all. I’ve realized that the older I become the more I’ve grown and I have a stronger need for consistency in my life!!!! For example, a manager at work needs somebody who will show up to work every day, ready to work, and on time!!!! You can’t just show up whenever you want and be late and expect to have a job. Inconsistent people sometimes don’t realize that they not only affect themselves but the whole team as well. Having consistent people on your team is detrimental to your success. If you sow seeds of inconsistency, you reap an inconsistent harvest. If you sow seeds of consistency, you reap the fruits of consistency. In order for our gifts to fully develop, it requires being consistent. There is something unique about each one of us, but it is up to us to find our niche and put in the necessary work to accomplish whatever our goals may be. It’s up to us to take initiative and take time to do the research and to find out how to get it done. The internet has so much information free of charge, put it to use. We have to realize that whatever we are purposed to do that God has already equipped us to do anything He has called us to do. From my experience, I can tell you that nothing in life worth having comes easy. It all requires hard work, faith, and determination. If success was easy, then everyone would be successful, and yet I am still learning myself. You must discipline yourself to have a strong work ethic.

In the book of Matthew, starting at the 25th chapter and the 14th verse, the story reminded me of how God gives us gifts. It was about a man who went on a journey that trusted some of his wealth to his servants. He gave one servant 5 bags of gold, to another servant 2 bags of gold, and another servant 1 bag of gold. After the man returned from his journey, the servant who had been given 5 bags of gold gained an extra 5 bags. The servant who was given 2 bags of gold, gained an extra 2 bags, and the servant who was given only 1 bag, did not gain any bags. The man who had only 1 bag became afraid and instead of going out and making more of what his master had given him, he hid his bag. He did not receive a profit. Even though, I may want to shun the man who did nothing. It is easy to call him lazy or look down on him, but I can relate to this man because sometimes we are like that man as well. God has given us gifts or talents to manage that we sleep on. As I previously stated, everyone has something that God has given them. It may take some alone time with God to find it, but He has given us each gifts. That we can use and bless someone else with, in some way, but sometimes we allow fear to creep in and we become afraid like that servant and not use the gifts that God has given us.

Sometimes God gives us God ideas that we never put in fruition due to fear. Or maybe because of what we think people may say about us, or maybe because we think we’re too old to do this or that, and we allow fear and self-doubt to cripple us that we doubt ourselves. In fact, sometimes God is the one who has put that very desire or idea in our hearts. & it may just be a stepping stone to something else that he may open up for us now or in the future, but we have to start somewhere. We just have to get started. And sometimes we may not know the very exact thing that God wants us to do, but He gives us likes and dislikes. We can start there, figure out what you like and don’t like. How will you ever know what you are purposed to do if you don’t even know that? I heard a motivational speech by Steve Harvey about being a comedian, he didn’t even know that being a comedian was something that he was going to do. He kind of just stumbled into it. He was writing jokes and selling his jokes for someone else to say… I said this to say that sometimes what you are purposed to do, it comes to us little by little. For example, I may see that I have an interest here and I am really good in this area, so i’ll just try to become better at it, and as I continue to work on it and live life, that desire may grow or God may show me something else that I may like that I may want to develop in. It could even be in that same direction, but a different path. Sometimes what He’s trying to show us, it builds off another stage. As we walk by faith, the vision becomes clearer for us. Sometimes God shows me something that I like or that I’ll do, but I don’t have enough experience in it yet. It doesn’t mean access denied, sometimes it just means go deeper. Jesus started His ministry at age 30, but He had to go through some experiences before He was ready to do what He came to do on the Earth. So don’t become discouraged when your plans don’t turn out as you anticipated. Keep going you are one step closer.

Sometimes you have to try new things, it doesn’t mean you are a failure if it doesn’t work out. Life is about trial and error, nobody has it all figured out. But God has given us all talents, but it is up to us to decide what will we do with them Don’t become afraid of things not turning out exactly how you expected it to turn out. Don’t be afraid of taking a loss sometimes, God says that all things work together for our good according to the those who love him. If you are afraid to do what God has called you to do, do it afraid. Fear is only (f)alse (e)evidence (a)appearing (r)eal. Behind your fear is everything you have been praying for, but you must start somewhere. God has your back and God is on your side. Do not be dismayed, God cares for you and He wants you to prosper. It’s not His will for you to live a barely getting by life. God came that we may have life and have it more abundantly. & last but not least, on your journey to finding purpose as Pastor John Gray stated, what is the thing you would do for free if you had the chance? That’s a step of finding your purpose? & if you are on your journey of finding purpose, I recommend reading The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren. You guys be blessed and have a wonderful night! I hope this blessed you as much as it blessed me. May God continue to keep and bless you and help you find your purpose, and what He was He has created you to do. It’s in Jesus’s name! We pray, Amen!
